The increase to the Row Officers was again defeated. This was not due to the lack of trying but,to the absence of Commissioner Hansell.
The Vote was as follows:
Yes; Browning, Hamm, Jones, McCarthy
No; Creighton, Eckhart, Doughtery, Roman
At this time I'm not sure if will come up again. Perhaps if it does Commissioner Browning will vote no. Time will tell.
The next issue is the pay increase for the Sheriff's Deputies. This was passed for first reading pending further information.
As part of the agreement, the Deputies will contribute 20% toward the cost of their Health Care. This is a plus for the future. It also reduces the real amount of their raises.
The Deputies want a parity with Northampton County. This is like a dog chasing its tail. If Lehigh gets an increase Northampton will want one to and visa versa.
Another troubling clause in the agreement is ( ME TOO ). If another group gets something their not, they want it also.
The administration really wants to avoid binding arbitration and if this agreement is not passed that is what may happen.
If the Commissioners vote "yes" then they gave a increase of an average of 3.3 % for the next three years.
If they vote " no " in all likely hood it will go to binding arbitration and this may be a
a bigger problem.
spending not revenue is the problem
PS; Now there are three of us. In addition to Jan Bowman Jill Malsberger has joined in attendance at the County meetings. This is GREAT. Welcome Jill.
