First, I would like to thank Jill Malsberger for being a real trooper and continuing to attend these meetings. Jill is starting to get a grasp, on what is happening at the meetings. I like her spunk and her saying, not just no but "Hell No".
Last night was the second reading for the installation of a "web cast" system for the Public hearing room. The system will consist of four cameras, three in the back an one in the front. This system has the capability of focusing in on the person speaking. Either a person at the podium or one of the Commissioners. It is my understanding, that the recording of the meetings will be available to the public for future viewing without expiration. My hope is, that the system could be in place, for the Budget meetings. I do believe that this will put a "Light" on the proceedings at the Commissioners meetings.
I have been trying to get the Commissioners to give more information, to the public, on bills being discussed at the meetings. This will be really important to people viewing the activity on their TV's. Since I attend the committee meetings, I have knowledge of most of the information, pertaining to each of the bills. I can ask questions of the people presenting the requests as well as making comments.
This Web Cast system will not replace attending the meetings. This is not an interactive forum, so comments and questions cannot be addressed.
The cost of this system is 30,000.00 for equipment, installation and servicing (operation of the system) for the first year. Then 10,000.00 for each of the next 2 two years. For a total of 50,000.00. After the third year, I would hope the the operation could be done in house.
Although Commissioner Dougherty argued that the cost was too high and we should go with a less expensive system he did support the need. I can't argue against his point.
The Vote went as follows:
No: Dougherty,Hamm, Jones
Again Commissioner Dougherty was against the cost, not the idea.
The Budget Hearings will be as follows. ( ALL MEETINGS WILL BE IN THE PUBLIC HEARING ROOM)
Wednesday September 15 6:30 pm Budget overview
Individual Office Review
Monday September 20th 6:30 pm
Monday September 27th 6:30 pm
Wednesday October 29th 6:30 pm
Tuesday October 5th 6:30 pm follow up on individual offices (if necessary)
As you may or may not know, the proposed budget call for a 16% Tax increase.
It would be in your best interest that you attend these hearings. I will be attending, as I'm sure Jill will.
WILL YOU ??????
spending not revenue is the problem
